The NNHF Process

Crafted from What Others Leave Behind

At Nevada Board Co, we turn overlooked hardwood into heirloom-quality boards and wood goods. We source unused stock, offcuts, and surplus material from past projects—wood that’s too beautiful to waste—and transform it through careful selection, milling, and hand-finishing. Every piece is built with intention, shaped by the character of the wood, and finished to perform for years of everyday use.

Why Reclaimed & Offcut Hardwood?

Hardwood offcuts and surplus pieces often come from high-end projects where the material quality is exceptional, but the leftover lengths don’t fit the original job. We rescue those pieces and give them a second life.

What that means for you:
  • More sustainable use of premium hardwood
  • One-of-a-kind grain and color variation
  • Craftsmanship-forward products with real story and character
What Makes NV Board Co Different

Reclaimed with Intention

We don’t “use leftover wood” — we curate it, design around it, and build for longevity.

Crafted by Skilled Hands

Our team brings professional woodworking experience to every glue-up, cut, and finish.

Built to Be Used

These aren’t disposable kitchen accessories. They’re tools made to last and age beautifully.

From Offcut to Finished Board / How We Build Each Piece

1) Sourcing & Selection

We begin by sorting through unused and offcut hardwood from past builds. Our craftsmen choose pieces based on grain, stability, and visual balance—matching complementary species when possible.

What we look for: straight grain where needed, strong figure where it shines, and the right moisture/stability for long-term use.

2) Milling & Prep

Each selected piece is milled for a clean, square starting point. We remove imperfections that could compromise strength, then dimension the wood for the intended board style and thickness.

This step ensures: better glue joints, improved stability, and a flatter finished surface.

3) Design & Layout

Next, we lay out each build based on the style you choose: Split, Stripe, Tritone, and more. Because every board starts with unique reclaimed wood, this is where the artistry happens: choosing tones, grain direction, and contrast so the final piece feels intentional (not random).

Custom requests allow more exact matching and design control, including special layouts and feature placement.

4) Glue-Up & Structural Build

We glue and clamp the board using proven joinery methods designed for strength and longevity. Once cured, the board is re-flattened and shaped, then sanded through multiple grits to create a smooth, durable working surface.

Result: a board that feels substantial, sits flat, and holds up to real kitchen use.

5) Features & Finishing Touches

If selected and compatible, we add functional upgrades such as:
  • Juice/drip grooves (custom or oversized boards)
  • Prep pan cutouts (custom or oversized boards)
  • Reversible configurations
  • Custom engraving
Edges are softened for comfort, corners are eased, and every board is hand-inspected for fit and finish.

6) Food-Safe Finish & Cure

We finish each board with a food-safe oil and conditioner to protect the wood and enhance natural grain. The board is then allowed to absorb and settle so it’s ready for use when it arrives.

Finished boards: look richer, resist moisture better, and maintain their surface longer with proper care.

7) Final Quality Check

Before any piece leaves our shop, we check:
  • Flatness and stability
  • Surface smoothness
  • Feature accuracy (grooves, cutouts, engraving placement)
  • Finish consistency

Only then is it packaged for pickup, delivery, or shipping.

One-of-a-Kind by Nature

Because we use reclaimed and offcut hardwood, variations in grain and color are normal, and part of what makes each board unique. If you need exact matching, symmetry, or specific wood species placement, choose Custom Made-to-Order and we’ll work with you directly to finalize the design.
